Sargassum Accumulates On Quintana Roo Beaches

The annual sargassum season is well and truly underway: large quantities of the seaweed have washed up on beaches in Quintana Roo destinations such as Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cozumel. The chief of the Cancún sargassum monitoring network said there is so much sargassum that containing it is impossible. According to the monitoring network’s most recent sargassum map, there are abundant quantities of the weed at 20 beaches in Quintana Roo and moderate amounts at 32 others. No beaches currently have excessive levels.
