Opinion | Canadians Need to Put Fear of Travelling into Perspective

In an opinion piece, Toronto.com discusses Canadians’ fear of travelling as a constant theme throughout the pandemic. The authors, both professors in related fields, highlight how certain messages shared during the pandemic, such as blame being placed on travel as the cause for rising causes, have maintained a fear of travel over time. A resident sentiment study from Destination Canada shows that in recent months, feelings of safety have decreased or remained unchanged across five Canadian provinces. However, the authors insist that as the vast majority of Canadians are vaccinated, and travel companies and popular destinations have implemented safety protocols, this fear of travel should change. “When vaccinated, Canadians should feel more comfortable travelling because travel professionals are working to keep us safe, there is life after vaccination,” they write.
