Nigeria is withholding USD $450 million in revenue which international carriers operating in the country have earned, said Kamal Al Awadhi, the International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s Vice President for Africa and the Middle East. According to Al Awadhi, a former chief executive of Kuwait Airways, Nigerian officials are blaming the country’s foreign currency shortage for not forwarding the airlines’ revenue. Reuters reports that IATA has so far held two rounds of talks with Nigerian officials, who Al Awadhi said were “not responsive” to releasing cash, and another round of talks is expected to “start soon.”
