New Orleans Reinstates Indoor Mask Mandate as Carnival Season Begins

In an effort to address COVID-19 case numbers in the city, the city of New Orleans has reinstated its indoor mask mandate as of 12JAN – just as it begins its Carnival season. The mandate applies to all indoor spaces and is expected to remain in place “until further notice,” Dr. Jennifer Avegno, the director of the New Orleans Health Department, said. With Carnival season approaching, Avengo said New Orleans is “at risk in a way that no other big city is.” An annual highlight of the New Orleans calendar, Carnival season ramps up after the New Year and culminates on Mardi Gras, which is on 01MAR this year.
