Mother's Day Spurs New, US COVID-19 Travel Record: 1.7m Flew Friday

On Friday, 07MAY, a record 1.7m American travellers were screened at TSA airport checkpoints, rewriting the record set just 24 hours earlier, when about 1.64m people were screened at U.S. airports. It marks the busiest day for American air travel since the start of the pandemic, which has yet to return to anywhere near the typical levels seen before COVID-19 brought flights almost to a standstill. In APR and MAY airport crowds in the U.S. were down about 40% compared with the same period in 2019, according to figures from the TSA.
