The passenger and cargo Maya Train is now set to begin operations on 01DEC, according to the military-controlled rail company building it.
The 1554km train loop will operate in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, passing through 34 stations with stops in five states: Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. The new train has been controversial due to its construction that continued despite serious environmental concerns.
