The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and British Airways have partnered to trial the "first integrated shopping to travel journey using digital identity," reports Business Traveller.
Passengers on a BA flight between London Heathrow and Rome Fiumicino were able to use digital wallets, digital passports, and biometric gates to travel through the airport.
The trial included biometric data to travel through security, into lounges, onto the aircraft, and sharing loyalty card data for personalized offers. The trial follows IATA's publication of 'Recommended Practice on Digitalization of Admissibility' last year, which aims to eliminate the need for stops at check-in desks or boarding gates.
