EU to Drop Flight, Airport Mask Mandates from 16MAY

On 11MAY, European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control announced that face masks will no longer be required in airports and on flights in Europe as of 16MAY.

The move is “broadly aligning with the changing requirements of national authorities across Europe for public transport,” EASA Executive Director Patrick Ky said.

Other European countries such as Italy, France, and Bulgaria have been relaxing or ending many pandemic-era restrictions, reports Reuters. According to the agencies, mask rules are still expected to vary after the mandate is lifted, with airlines instructed to encourage pax to wear masks on flights to or from destinations where masks on public transport are required, which includes Canada.
