Criticizing Aviation is Not the Solution to Climate Change: Airbus Canada CEO

At the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations on 23NOV, Benoît Schultz, CEO of Airbus Canada, came to the industry’s defence, saying that stigmatizing the aviation sector won’t lead to constructive solutions to the reduction of greenhouse gases. According to Schultz, the airline sector employs 160 million workers worldwide, while accounting for “2 to 3 per cent” of global CO2 emissions. Still, Schultz added that the company is “proactive” in reducing aircraft emissions, with the goal to become carbon neutral by 2035. “In the last 25 years, we have reduced our aircraft emissions by about 80 per cent in terms of CO2 and 90 per cent in terms of nitrogen oxide compared to early generation aircraft,” he said.
