A B.C.-based travel agency has found itself $5,000 out of pocket over a cancelled Air Canada flight and a credit card refund. The Waraich family -- a couple and their two teenage children -- paid Sohi Vacations almost $6,600 for a return trip to India in FEB 2020, returning 28MAR, 2020. But two days after a global pandemic was declared on 11MAR, 2020, AC cancelled the return flight and India closed its borders. The family ended up getting on a KLM “rescue flight” to YYZ on 19MAY, 2020. In JUL, the Waraichs’ credit card company agreed to a $5,000 refund because they had not received the return part of the flight. Sohi owner Sunil Sharman took the Waraichs to small claims court. The court dismissed the claim. Sharman said he is not satisfied with the decision and is following up with authorities.
