Amtrak Restores Long-Distance Service Following COVID-19 Cutbacks

In another hopeful sign of travel recovery, Amtrak says it will restore daily service on 12 long-distance routes across the country. Monday four routes concentrated in the Midwest and West Coast resumed daily service, including destinations such as Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. The routes had previously only been operating several times a week due to low ridership during the pandemic. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., who helped secure billions in COVID relief funding for Amtrak as chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, hailed the news.
