75 Per Cent of New Orleans Hotels Still Closed Because of Hurricane Ida

According to the latest data from STR, at least 155 New Orleans hotels are temporarily closed due to issues related to Hurricane Ida such as power outages, staffing issues and third-party services such as linen providers being offline. STR researched the operating status of 208 hotels for 35,835 rooms and found that 155 properties (75 per cent) and 28,756 rooms (80 per cent) are currently closed. As most closures are due to temporary conditions and not property damage, STR’s expectation is that there will not be any widespread permanent closures. Most hotels have announced short-term reopening dates, with many expected to reopen in SEP and OCT 2021, with most following by the end of the year.
