120 DAYS: Canadian Aircrew Mark Detention Milestone in DR After Finding Contraband on Plane

The Canadian crew of a Pivot Airlines plane has been detained in the Dominican Republic now for 120 days. They’ve been held in the DR since 05APR when the crew members, union representatives, and airline executives say the crew discovered and reported illicit cargo on board prior to departure from Punta Cana airport to Toronto.

Local authorities subsequently unearthed 200 kilos of cocaine hidden on board and detained the 5-member crew and 6 pax. Although crew members were released from jail, they remain guarded under house arrest in the DR, with the captain telling Canadian media that “every day is hell” with no end in sight, and that his life is “on the line” for simply following the rules and reporting contraband whose improper storage could have resulted in downing the flight.
