Move over Golden Hour, it’s dusk’s turn to take centre stage as travellers slow down to enjoy the final hours of the day in a more thoughtful way.
The end-of-day ritual called “dusking” seems to have originated in the Netherlands, but is catching on globally, with some seeking out the best locations to enjoy the fading of the light.
“All you need is a chair and a view,” Dutch author Marjolijn van Heemstra told The Guardian. “It’s cheap, easy and a nice thought exercise – we live on a planet, miracles are happening every day and we can witness them.”
However, as nice as your own backyard may be, a new report from internet connectivity provider Holafly found that travellers are seeking out the ideal landscapes while on the road, with some choosing destinations based on dusking potential.
The most popular dusking destination? Santorini, Greece, according to EuroNews, which has reported on the trend. Runner-up destinations included Bali, Indonesia, Italy’s Amalfi Coast, the Maldives and the Canary Islands.
"The idea is simple: no phones, no rushing, no productivity, just taking in the changing colours of the sky and the sounds of the evening," the publication reported.
