Collette announced on 27MAY that the tour operator has returned from its first departure to the 2022 Oberammergau Passion Play. The Bavarian hamlet of Oberammergau, Germany is hosting thousands of visitors to showcase its Passion Play, depicting the life and death of Jesus Christ.

Guests set out on a cultural experience in the Imperial Cities of Central Europe featuring traditional entertainment and the Oberammergau Passion Play. While on tour, guests experienced a city tour of Budapest featuring the Matthias Church, where many kings have had their coronations.

They travelled back in time with a visit to a 14th-century castle, where knights with colorful costumes and authentic weaponry recreate the days of chivalry. The tour concluded with the performance of the Oberammergau Passion Play.

The origins of this historic play date back to 1634, and the day-long telling of the tale of the biblical Easter story is normally staged for the summer season once every 10 years.

The Play was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19 and the postponed, 2022 season of Oberammergau has begun. Collette is currently offering 7 itineraries featuring the Oberammergau Passion Play.

“Our travelers have been waiting for more than a decade to see the esteemed Passion Play.” said Jaclyn Leibl-Cote, President of Collette. “As travel continues to rebound, guests will have the opportunity to take advantage of many special events on tour that we’re offering.”
