TICO is calling on its registrants to attend its fee consultation sessions, which begin on 16SEP 2021. Three sessions will be held in total, which are intended as a consultation period with registrants and other stakeholders on the proposed changes to the fee model and funding framework.
TICO notes that registrant feedback and input are critical in shaping its future funding model in support of our consumer protection mandate.
As Open Jaw reported in detail last week, TICO is proposing the introduction of a "TICO Fee," adjustments to the renewal bands and associated fees, and a Temporary Moratorium on current contributions to the Compensation Fund.
Reactions by industry leaders, including ACTA, to the proposed changes have been strong.
ACTA in particular notes that the new proposed fee model and funding framework, as well as the timing of the announcement and the consultation process are both "tone deaf and completely inappropriate." ACTA President Wendy Paradis went on to say that the focus for travel professionals should be on pressing for continued financial aid for the sector from local candidates and party leaders during the upcoming federal election.
TICO's Three Virtual Fee Consultation Sessions will be held on:

A review of TICO’s fee structure and rates has been under consideration for some time. The current funding model is dictated by provincial law, and has been in place since TICO was delegated in 1997.
