Tourism Malaysia Canada Releases Video Highlighting Rural Travel

Tourism Malaysia Canada is highlighting the benefits – and extraordinary beauty – of travel in rural Malaysia.

It’s released a video ‘Sabah Rural Tourism’.

Sabah is one of the most off-the-beaten-track destinations in the South-East Asian country. The state is located at the northern tip of the legendary island of Borneo, with another Malaysian state, Sarawak to its south, as well as an Indonesian state and the sultanate of Brunei sharing the island.

The exotic destination is home to equatorial rainforests full of unique plant and animal species, rivers, and a mountain range that includes Mount Kinabalu, the highest point in Malaysia. Kota Kinabalu is the state capital.

Tourism Malaysia points out rural travel allows visitors to see another side of the country outside urban centres, as well as “connect with nature, hang with the locals and enjoy the bounties of rural life, while you immerse yourself in an experience like none you have ever had.”

Rural tourism takes many forms in Malaysia, from visits to tea or rubber plantations, paddy fields or fruit farms and of course, traditional villages. The range of natural settings untouched by human hands  includes lush ancient rainforests, majestic waterfalls, beautiful lakes, fascinating wildlife and pristine white sandy beaches with crystal clear waters sun-kissed by the warm tropical sun year round.

It appeals to visitors with differing interests, too. Rural tourism gives visitors access to artisans making local crafts, off-the-beaten-path exploration of caves with fruit bats, or Malaysian history like the Sandakan Death March, or even ‘agritourism’ where travellers can roll up their sleeves and get down to business helping at a farm or plantation.

Any way a traveller chooses to experience rural parts of Malaysia, their experience will involve a slower pace as part of connecting with nature, learning about local agriculture, or experiencing authentic local cultures by living amongst local villagers.

Tourism Malaysia Canada also points out that rural tourism helps local communities thrive with an economic boost from sharing their traditional culture.
