The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) is paying tribute to Saint Lucian hotelier, The Honourable Nick Troubetzkoy, who passed away during a recent visit to London.

Troubetzkoy, who is celebrated for his impact on Caribbean tourism, founded the Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain Resorts in Saint Lucia.

"He was an industry giant who will be missed," said Sanovnik Destang, CHTA President and fellow Saint Lucian hotelier.

"He left a legacy on tourism in Saint Lucia and in the Caribbean. Not only by dreaming big and creating a world class product that stretched the boundaries of what we imagined possible but also his impact on the community and on championing sustainable tourism development."

Troubetzkoy, originally from Western Canada, trained as an architect before arriving in Saint Lucia in the 70s, where he fell in love with the island’s natural beauty and culture. His designs championed harmony with nature and celebrated local culture, earning him widespread acclaim.

His contributions were recognized globally and locally. Alongside his wife Karolin, a former CHTA president, Troubetzkoy received the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit. Saint Lucia also honoured him with its highest distinctions, the Saint Lucia Cross (SLC) and the Saint Lucia Medal of Honour (SLMH), for his dedication to sustainability and the Soufrière community.

The CHTA extended its condolences to the Troubetzkoy family and the extended team who have been part of his journey. His legacy is deeply woven into the spirit of Saint Lucia and the Caribbean hospitality industry.
