On Monday, March 10, a significant disruption in air travel to German airports is anticipated as over 3,400 flights are expected to be cancelled, impacting roughly 510,000 passengers. This upheaval stems from a 24-hour strike initiated by the German trade union Verdi, targeting public sector employees and ground-handling personnel at major airports across Germany.
Frankfurt Airport has issued a stark warning, indicating that flight departures are highly unlikely on the day of the strike and advising travellers to refrain from heading to the airport. Passengers with connecting flights are urged to verify their flight status directly with their airlines.
Other airports facing significant operational challenges include Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin, and Leipzig-Halle. Notably, Germany's air traffic control operator, DFS, has stated that it will not experience direct effects from the strike.
