"Don't Travel" Warning as Strikes Set to Cripple German Airports Friday

FRA

It's a bad week for air travel in Germany.

Just two days after a Lufthansa Group-wide IT outage virtually grounded the air group, closed FRA to incoming flights and had a massive ripple effect on aviation in Europe and around the world, as Open Jaw reported, flying in Germany will come to a virtual standstill again on Friday 0 - but for a completely unrelated reason.

As SimpleFlying reports, public sector, aviation security and ground handling workers have called for a country-wide, one-day strike for 17FEB.

The labour action is set to impact major and many minor German airports. The union provided a list where action would take place, and it includes main hubs like Frankfurt and Munich, as well as regional airports like Bremen, Dortmund, Hamburg, Hanover, and Stuttgart.

Despite the notice given to travellers to adjust their travel plans, there may not have been enough time to switch itineraries for all affected pax. Hamburg Airport notes, "cancellations and delays are to be expected, up to and including the complete suspension of passenger flights."

So much is the strike predicted to cripple air travel in the country, that FRA officials are advising pax against air travel altogether that day.
