The Canadian Transportation Agency has approved new carrier OWG to begin operating scheduled international service to three sun destinations: the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica.
The approval for the new Quebec-based airline, a subsidiary of Nolinor Aviation, to fly to the three countries came late in JUL, and followed earlier approval in MAR 2021 for OWG to fly to the U.S.
The carrier has not indicated which routes in the U.S. or approved sun destinations it is planning on operating.
Last NOV, Open Jaw reported OWG had delayed a planned launch that month, when it partnered with Hola Sun (Caribe Sol in Quebec) to provide direct air service to Cuba via YYZ and YUL to Varadero, Cayo Coco, Holguín and Santa Clara.
Ultimately, it was able to launch the planned flights to Cuba on 18DEC. The initial flight series came to an end after only about a month, when the Government of Canada requested all carriers to halt flights to sun destinations in an effort to stem the spread of the virus.
“We were able to test a number of aspects of our in-flight experience during this first series,” noted Oliver Tomczak, OWG’s Director of Commercial Operations in a statement on the company’s website at that time.
“Our in-flight crew delivered a unique experience and, based on the level of traveller satisfaction, we came out winners when we gambled on our HIGH LOVE in-flight experience. We’ll use this shutdown period to perfect this experience.”
HIGH LOVE is the term the carrier is using to describe its service. On its website, OWG says, “we have come to the conclusion that OWG is not a LOW COST or ULTRA LOW COST type airline. The vision of these airlines is to reduce an air transport service to its simplest components. We at OWG believe that no matter what fare formula is in place, the priority must remain to provide an experience, and to do so, our passengers must be at the heart of our priorities. Our vision is to give you a hefty dose of love and that’s why OWG is an airline in the HIGH LOVE category.”
OWG’s fleet of aircraft primarily consists of long-distance, Boeing 737-400s, configured for 156, all-economy class seats.
Despite the latest federal agency approval for new routes to the U.S., Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, OWG has yet to announce a launch date of any scheduled flights on routes to these destinations.
