“Suffocated Demand” Leads Porter To Suspend Flights Through 11FEB 2021

Porter Airlines has extended its flight suspension beyond the holiday period, with plans to restart operations on 11FEB, 2021.

"Unfortunately, the continued and cumulative effects of restrictive travel advisories, border closures and quarantines have suffocated travel demand to the point that a return to sustainable levels of passenger traffic is highly unlikely in 2020," said Michael Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines.

The airline temporarily halted operations on 21MAR as non-essential travel was banned and public health restrictions were put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. Flights were originally slated to resume on 01JUN, but the suspension has been extended numerous times.

"Planning a restart after the traditionally slow post-holiday January period, provides a reasonable opportunity to begin flying if conditions improve," the airline said in a statement.

"This also gives more time for the development of rapid testing solutions as a promising means to lift government-imposed restrictions on travel."
