Solstice Shift To Europe Next Summer May Solve Pricing Problem
Cruise Week

The decision by Celebrity to base Solstice in Europe for summer 2011 rather than returning to the Caribbean may solve a pricing problem for RCI.

Despite Celebrity being Royal Caribbean’s premium line, agents report that Oasis is receiving premium rates over Solstice-class in the Caribbean. But in Europe Celebrity continues to achieve premium rates over Royal Caribbean ships.

An agent gave Cruise Week some pricing examples: “On Royal’s Tuesday sales events, what often stands out is Europe. For instance, we have June 6 Navigator in the Med, seven-night inside for $550.” In contrast, Celebrity rates appear to be holding firm in Europe.

However, in the Caribbean, what stands out to this agent is the close-in bookings on Solstice at appetizing rates. “I have clients going on Solstice this week,” he relates. “They booked with me last Wednesday, a balcony guarantee for $799 (Aqua class).”
