WestJet Clarifies: No Alliance With Delta Yet
Open Jaw

WestJet has clarified comments made by Delta Air Lines in Delta's Q1 conference call that an alliance agreement between Delta and WestJet had been reached. "WestJet has not signed an alliance agreement with Delta, but a commercial relationship could occur in the future."

The only recently signed agreement between Delta Air Lines and WestJet provided WestJet with the option to acquire slots at LaGuardia Airport in New York City; this agreement is still subject to U.S. regulatory approval.

Earlier this month, Southwest Airlines, dropped its agreement with WestJet that would have seen two airlines sell seats on each other's flights. Southwest said it couldn't accept changes WestJet had demanded be made to a deal the airlines first reached in 2008. They did not divulge why the changes were unpalatable enough to call off the agreement.
