The Princess Glow-Up

Mexico’s beloved all-inclusive gets a refresh

Grand Riviera Princess

Grand Riviera Princess has undergone a full-scale transformation, reopening on 16MAY after a nearly year-long closure with a complete top-to-bottom renovation. First-time visitors will find a polished, contemporary property, while returning guests will appreciate the thoughtful enhancements woven throughout the reimagined resort.

Princess Hotels & Resorts has been systematically renovating its portfolio since 2019 to elevate the brand to align with evolving traveller expectations.

“Grand Riviera Princess is a very well-known product in Canada, and they knew that the hotel needed a facelift,” says Nicole Perez, Director of Sales North-America, Princess Hotels & Resorts.

“Now the Grand Riviera Princess offers elevated experiences in a well-beloved destination and property for the Canadian traveller. Everything that you can want or desire while on vacation, we can offer it at the Grand Riviera Princess.”

Redesigned Suites and Platinum Perks

Platinum Suite with Plunge Pool is a brand new category. There are 34 of these suites, each with a private pool and terrace, accommodating up to three guests over the age of 13. It’s a natural fit for couples, honeymooners, adult friends, or families with an older child who want space and a degree of privacy without leaving the all-inclusive model.

Platinum-level accommodations come with a suite of added conveniences.

  • Upgraded in-room amenities like a capsule coffee machine
  • Private check-in, as well as early check-in and late check-out (subject to availability)
  • Room service from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Exclusive access to the Platinum Lounge, where guests can access personalized concierge service
  • Exclusive pool and beach area with bar service
  • Domestic, international, and premium drinks
  • Priority dinner reservations with personalized assistance
  • A Princess beach bag

Laguna Villa Suites are adults only, and the property’s most exclusive offering. With just 24 villas, this category leans into a quieter, more private atmosphere with lagoon views and a private outdoor shower.

“The Laguna Villa Suites are an adult-only section right in the middle of the property. They were cool before, and now with the renovations, they’re even cooler, with more of a Tulum vibe,” says Perez.

What really sets the Laguna Villas apart is the level of service layered on top of standard Platinum Club perks:

  • Access to one hydrotherapy circuit per person
  • A special culinary experience once per week in the Villa area
  • A private pool for Laguna Villa guests with a dedicated mixologist who creates personalized cocktails
  • Private check-in and check-out at the Laguna Lounge

The Deluxe Junior Swim-Out Suite gives guests direct pool access from their private terrace—an easy, functional feature that continues to resonate with travellers. For guests who prioritize convenience and time by the pool, it’s a straightforward, high-value choice.

Notably, the renovation brings greater consistency across all room types. Entry-level categories such as the Junior Suite and Deluxe Junior Suite reflect the same elevated experience and design philosophy as the higher-end suite categories.

Balancing Energy and Escape

One of Grand Riviera Princess’s defining strengths is its ability to accommodate different travel styles within a single footprint.

The main resort area offers a lively atmosphere, particularly around pools and the central plaza, while upgraded categories—especially Laguna Villa Suites—provide quieter alternatives. Platinum Suites, which accommodate families, sit somewhere in between, offering elevated access without fully separating from the broader resort experience.

A Familiar Name, Repositioned

As Perez notes, Grand Riviera Princess had a well-established presence in the Canadian market, but now returns with a more current product at a time when travellers are placing greater emphasis on value.

“Something that really highlights Princess overall, not just this property, is the price-to-quality ratio. You actually get what you’re paying for, and a little bit more,” she says.

“In these uncertain times, people are trying to get the best value for their money, and this resort, especially now with all the renovations, has that extra plus for the rate we’re out there with.”
