A Different Side of Punta Cana

Hilton’s Zemi Miches has a story to tell

Opened just under a year ago, Zemi Miches Punta Cana All-Inclusive Resort, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton introduces clients to a lesser-known corner of the Dominican Republic, one that trades dense resort strips for lush landscapes and cultural depth.

Hilton positions Zemi Miches as a “next-generation all-inclusive, catering to what Ashley Gibbs, Senior Manager Business Development – All Inclusive, Hilton, calls “the evolution of the more discerning traveller.”

“Many Canadian advisors are looking to move into the luxury or mid-luxury space, and that’s where we see the all-inclusive evolving to,” says Gibbs. “Zemi Miches offers travellers that more exclusive, elevated all-inclusive experience that is wellness-focused, culturally connected, and authentically immersive. The Canadian market is increasingly seeking these discerning, luxury experiences.”

Miches is Having Its Moment

The Miches area is rapidly emerging as a luxury destination for travellers seeking alternatives to busier Punta Cana, and Zemi Miches is very much at the centre of that evolution. From PUJ, the mostly highway drive to Miches takes about 90 minutes. Along the way, Punta Cana’s busier landscape gradually shifts to something far more natural and authentic.

“There are so many great Air Canada flights going down to the destination from all the major gateways, and it gives a lot of great opportunity for clients to experience the new Miches area. The drive is a beautiful introduction to the region,” says Gibbs.

Seasoned advisors also speak highly of the destination’s distinct character.

“When you get to Miches, it feels much more like a Costa Rica, Saint Lucia, or Hawaii,” Gibbs says. “Those are things I’ve heard from seasoned advisors selling the Caribbean and sun destinations.”

Elevated, Authentic All Inclusive

Manicato Restaurant

Zemi Miches blends all-inclusive luxury with immersive Dominican experiences rooted in the region’s Taíno heritage, a thread that runs through the resort’s design, dining, and programming. The resort spans 500 rooms, suites, and bungalows set directly on Playa Esmeralda, known for its soft sand, clear water, and natural shoreline.

“Zemi Miches highlights the culture and history of the Taíno people in that region. A lot of that has been lost in other resort offerings, so we really provide a unique experience, and the Canadian market has responded very well,” Gibbs says.

Dining feels elevated and sophisticated without feeling overly formal. Culinary highlights include:

  • Guacete – an international food hall concept.
  • Yuca – a beachfront grill.
  • Toa – authentic Dominican cuisine rooted in the flavours and traditions of the region.
  • Boba – Thai specialties.
  • Manicato – Italian fare.Jagua – Caribbean dining exclusive to Bungalow guests, adding a layer of exclusivity for those in premium accommodations.
  • A casual food truck for easy bites.

“Culinary is a hallmark of all our all inclusives, and Zemi Miches elevates dining with immersive, locally inspired experiences,” says Gibbs.

Activities and Cultural Programming for All Ages

Ocean View 2 Queen

Zemi Miches is upscale, but it strikes a careful balance: multi-generational families enjoy pools, waterparks, kids’ clubs, and family programming, while adults can retreat to wellness experiences and serene pools for relaxation.

The resort has daily entertainment for all ages, cultural workshops, non-motorized water sports, and nightly shows. There’s also unique programming experiences like doll painting with local vendors, cigar rolling workshops, and mamajuana tastings.

Wellness plays a prominent role at Zemi Miches. The Acana Resort Spa integrates modern treatments with nature-inspired rituals influenced by Taíno traditions, while wellness classes run throughout the day.

“Those are things that really create more of a holistic experience. There’s been real careful attention paid to that,” Gibbs says.

In one particularly symbolic design decision, the resort’s pool complex was built around a historic tree rather than removing it.

Club Azure: Quietly Exclusive

For guests looking for a semi-private experience, Club Azure adds exclusive amenities that take the all-inclusive experience up a notch:

  • Private check-in and check-out.
  • Upgraded in-room amenities.
  • Complimentary beach bag.
  • Dedicated Club Azure concierge.
  • Privileged access to three exclusive bars: Carey, Caicu, and the Royal Palm.
  • Club Azure is a specific, ultra-exclusive tier unique to Zemi Miches.

“When Azure Club guests arrive, they’re whisked away to a semi-private check-in experience,” says Gibbs. “It’s discreet and offers a bit more exclusivity, without standing out to other guests because the overall guest experience at the resort is already elevated.”

Hilton’s Curio Collection Adds Personality

Hilton’s Curio Collection adds personality to a reputable, reliable brand. As part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, Zemi Miches benefits from greater creative freedom, leaning more deeply into local culture, design, and storytelling.

“Curio Collection provides a broader range to have a more unique collection of resorts that are not necessarily quite as rigidly defined by some of the brand standards,” says Gibbs. “When we talk about how we’re able to lean into the Taíno culture and a lot of the local highlights, that’s possible at the Curio Collection.”
