Health Canada: COVID Border Measures to Remain in Place at Least Another Month

Canada Airport ArrivalsHealth Canada made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday, 31MAY:

"The Government of Canada is extending current border measures for travellers entering Canada until at least June 30, 2022. All travellers, regardless of vaccination status, must continue to submit their information in ArriveCAN through the free app or web site."

And government web sites have been updated accordingly: https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid

Chaos and long lineups at Canada's major international airports have been attributed by airport and union officials in part to the added time required for COVID health protocols for arrivals into Canada.

Without significant change - in addition to extra staffing, they've warned - the busy summer travel season could be a nightmare for Canadians travelling abroad and foreign pax visiting Canada during this vital travel recovery period.

While, as Open Jaw has been reporting, Ottawa has taken other measures to ease the logjam in airports for both departing and arriving pax, the lack of movement on COVID health protocols will remain a sticking point for industry advocates.

The travel industry has called on Ottawa to not only increase staffing for outbound security and inbound border services, it’s also criticized “legacy” Public Health COVID requirements like random testing that industry members say are bogging down the process.
