No one wants to be removed from the A list of countries. Especially when it means more pain for our bruised and battered travel industry.
The European Council has decided Canada is not safe and removed us as well as Australia and Argentina from its Safe Travel List as of 17JAN.
The Safe Travel List is a list of countries which the Council recommends member countries should allow inbound travel from for non-essential reasons.
Ultimately, it is up to each individual EU member state to decide whether or not to follow such guidelines, as they are not legally binding.
As previously reported by Open Jaw, EU member countries imposed a variety of different restrictions on U.S. travellers once it was removed from the list.
The Safe Travel List is reviewed and updated every two weeks. As of 17JAN, is comprised of the following countries:
- Bahrain
- Chile
- Colombia
- Indonesia
- Kuwait
- New Zealand
- Peru
- Qatar
- Rwanda
- Saudi Arabia
- South Korea
- United Arab Emirates
- Uruguay
- China, subject to confirmation of reciprocity, which also includes the special administrative regions of China Hong Kong and Macao.
